The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Software Engineer.
The Large-Scale Analytics Systems Group (QAS) provides critical contributions to some of the nation's greatest information systems challenges today. Candidate will design and develop software knowledge systems to support data management, technology assessments and test and evaluation for DHS and DoD programs. We are looking for an energetic and creative individual to design and code complex software systems using modern computer science and engineering tools and techniques. The successful candidate will join a growing team of software engineers and data scientists in the collegial environment of a university-affiliated research center.
Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):
Develop and maintain software; implement highly scalable components and reliable web applications. (70%)
Develop thorough and automated unit test harnesses for developed solutions. Participate in formal requirement, design, and code reviews. (20%)
- Present results to both JHU/APL and Sponsor leadership. (10%)

B.S. in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or equivalent. 1-5 years of experience in software development & engineering, including requirements analysis, software architectures, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution. Experience developing software with object-oriented languages such as Java, C#, PHP, or Python. Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently, outstanding written and oral communications skills, and good organizational skills. Must be eligible for DoD clearance requiring background investigation.
Special Working Conditions [Travel, working in closed areas, extended hours]: Minimal local travel to sponsor sites may be required.
Security: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
