The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an experienced Software/Applications Developer and technical lead in the areas of web and database software design and implementation.
Work as a software engineer building Java based web applications. Provide high quality, end-to-end software development in support of several government sponsor projects.
Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):
- Design and code web and database applications (70%)
- Gather requirements, design technical solutions, work on software development teams, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance websites and database applications (20%)
- Develop and maintain software documentation and User Manuals (10%)

Knowledge of interfacing with relational database like Oracle/SQL server and No SQL. Must have a detailed and clear understanding of HTML, XML, and Cascading Stylesheets (CSS). Knowledge of agile methodology, unit testing, continuous integration. The ability to work on multiple projects at once. Strong interpersonal and sponsor interface skills.
Special Working Conditions (travel, working in closed areas, extended hours): Minimal travel to local area sponsor sites may be necessary.
