The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer.
Job Summary: Lead and participate in the development of advanced network security concepts, as well as the software to realize these concepts.
Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):
- Lead capabilities development efforts employing software development life cycle principles along with strong analytic skills, and developing software implementations supporting advanced network security concepts addressing operational challenges. (40%)
- Participate in the design, development, adaptation, testing, and integration of software supporting the realization of advanced network security capabilities. (40%)
- Develop documentation describing the design and operation of advanced network security capabilities. (15%)
- Engage and collaborate with other technical leaders within APL, peer organizations, and sponsors. (5%)

Required Qualifications: B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent. 8 years experience in the full-life-cycle development of software systems for computer network systems security applications. In-depth knowledge of computer programming languages, especially C and C, as well as experience with scripting languages such as Python and Perl. Understanding of computer architectures and assembly language. Active TS clearance.
Desired Qualifications: M.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent. 10 years experience in the full-life-cycle development of software systems for cyber security applications. Experience providing technical leadership in an advanced software development or cyber security research organization. Understanding of compiler internals including intermediate representations and code generation, assemblers, linkers, loaders, object file formats, and debuggers. Active TS/SCI clearance.
