Signal and Image Processing Engineer

Introduction: The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Signal and Image Processing Engineer.

Job Summary: Provide signal and image processing solutions related to multiple domains in support of Undersea Warfare applications.

Duties:

  • Engineering design, investigation and improvement. Involvement with algorithm development and delivery for integration to tactical systems. (40%)
  • Laboratory level algorithm evaluation, involving significant amounts of measured data, to provide sponsors with independent assessments of algorithm performance. (40%)
  • Documentation and presentation of results. (20%)

Required Qualifications: BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related discipline with at least three years of relevant experience gained professionally or via academic pursuits. Experience with development of real-time signal processing systems. Interest in advanced signal and image processing techniques. Strong demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Desired Qualifications: MS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related discipline with 1 o 2 years of relevant professional experience. Machine Learning experience.

Special Working Conditions: Some travel (including by air) to support sponsor interactions, working group meetings and participation in field tests at shore sites or onboard Navy vessels; working closed areas will be required on a regular basis.

Security: Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information up to the Secret level. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
