Senior Weapon Systems Engineer

Introduction: The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Senior Weapon Systems Engineer.

Job Summary: Provide systems engineering expertise and technical leadership to support the design, development, integration, analysis, and test & evaluation of long range weapon systems and payloads.

Duties:

  • Lead/coordinate technical studies to inform system development and sustainment. This includes organizing the study team, defining the study, leading/conducting the study, and developing and delivering technical products and presentations to the sponsor. (50%)
  • Apply life-cycle systems engineering expertise to the development and sustainment of weapon systems. Focus areas include requirements development and analysis, concept/technology evaluation/development, risk and safety assessments, integration and test and evaluation. (30%)
  • Regularly interface with technical groups and program managers, sponsors, and industry partners in the conduct of systems engineering and studies. (20%)

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or related technical field. At least 10 years systems engineering technical experience in the design, development and evaluation of complex weapon systems. Demonstrated ability to lead technical studies. Exceptionally strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to interface with sponsor, industry partners, and military personnel on a routine basis.

Desired Qualifications:

Advanced degree in systems engineering, engineering, physics, or related discipline. DoD acquisition experience. Understanding of US Navy submarine operations or strategic weapons systems. Experience in systems engineering for missile systems.

Special Working Conditions: Periodic local travel and occasional overnight travel. (10%)

Security: Top Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information up to the Top Secret level. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
