Senior Network Engineer

Provide technical expertise in the support of enterprise unclassified networks. Function in the role of a senior network engineer responsible for infrastructure engineering, operations, and administration to include information, design, deployment, and integration. This position will promote and leverage new technologies including virtualization and emergent security aspects to continually improve services.

Duties include:

1. Support and promote the deployment of new technologies, upgrades, and configuration changes; apply system analysis techniques to determine system, network and infrastructure requirements in order to design, build, test, maintain, and advance the IT architecture supporting APL's unclassified converged network.

2. Function as a senior engineer to troubleshoot network performance and connectivity issues on the unclassified converged network by leveraging industry best practices.

3. Apply solutions to the existing proactive monitoring and automation methodology to manage growth and capacity planning.

4. Participate as a team member in the planning and implementation of network upgrades and maintenance. Respond to alerts and after-hour support activities.

Required Qualifications:

B.S in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience with computer systems and networks.
10 years of experience working with complex network environments and demonstrated technical skills:

  • Experience in Cisco Network and Security Technologies to include understanding routing and switching protocols and configuring & troubleshooting routers, switches, and firewalls (ASA/PA).
  • Familiarization with LAN/WAN architectures to include virtual and cloud environments.
  • Must have working experience with SNMP, Netflow, packet analysis, and troubleshooting with network tools.
Demonstrated:
  • Strong customer service and ability to interface with all levels of management, customers, and staff to learn and understand their issues and requirements.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team environment in support of shared objectives, and make sound decisions independently when necessary.
  • Work well under pressure during major outages, cyber incident response and project deadlines.
  • Communicate (verbal and written) with individuals of diverse technical and administrative backgrounds


Desired Qualifications:

Completion of Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Internet Engineer (CCIE) certification

Exposure to non-Cisco technology solutions, e.g. Arista, Palo Alto, Fortinet

Exposure to unified communications and collaboration services

Customer service experience

Special Working Conditions:

Some weekend and after hours work may be required due to business need.
