Introduction: The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an experienced, highly skilled, and well motivated Physicist, Aerospace Engineer, or Mechanical Engineer with detailed knowledge of the state-of-the-art in all aspects of hypersonic vehicles, to provide technical support for National efforts to develop hypersonic systems.

Job Summary: A proven technical contributor is sought to join a strong technical team of experienced engineers and scientists involved with all aspects of the development and evaluation of hypersonic systems. In addition, the candidate must be able to successfully interface with Government sponsors, industry partners, and Laboratory staff to ensure continuity in the development process.

Duties:
Provide technical contributions and leadership in the development of hypersonic strike weapons in the relevant areas of analysis, modeling and simulation, hardware, integration, test, and evaluation.
Provide regular interface with Government sponsors, industry partners, and key Laboratory program and technical staff on activities related to the development of hypersonic systems.
* Produce written documents and presentations of technical work.

Required Qualifications: MS or PhD in Physics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other relevant technical discipline. Fifteen or more years of applicable experience in the development of hypersonic systems and technologies including expertise in: advanced weapon systems development; high-temperature aerodynamics and aerothermodynamics; propulsion systems; high-temperature materials and structures; wind tunnel, laboratory, and field testing of components and systems; and novel vehicle design and configuration. Must have an understanding of state of the art in the areas of: materials and their manufacturing, fabrication, and applications. Consistent record of accomplishments of successful technical work related to hypersonic systems. Demonstrated teaming skills involving engineering and analysis tasks. Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively interface with Government leaders and industry technical contributors. High initiative, motivation, flexibility, and interest in working in a fast-paced team environment.

Desired Qualifications: PhD in Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. A deep technical knowledge of hypersonic system development.

Special Working Conditions: Occasional travel by vehicle, aircraft, etc. to government and contractor facilities as required. Occasional work in secure facilities.

Security: TS/SCI Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for an SSBI and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. Preference for current SSBI. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
