Safety and Environmental Health (EHS) Specialist

Job Summary: The EHS Specialist has responsibilities across a wide variety of technical programs including training on safety and health topics, conducting safety/environmental audits and inspections; maintaining day-to-day oversight of environmental safety and health (EHS) programs such as Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Respiratory Protection, Contractor Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, etc.; and collecting exposure sampling data.
- Develop and provide EHS training programs including Bloodborne Pathogens, Chemical and Hazardous Waste, Lockout/Tagout, Personal Protective Equipment, Fall Protection, Ladder Safety and Hearing Conversation. Continuously evaluate training program content and effectiveness. (30%)
- Manage EHS related inspection programs (including specific biological, chemical, and regulated waste collection sites). Plan and conduct inspections to assess existing conditions and to determine compliance with policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Develop reports with findings and corrective actions identified. Educate staff regarding common findings and appropriate hazard mitigations. Maintain documentation and track trends. (30%)
- Conduct industrial hygiene surveys using monitoring equipment to quantify potential bio, chemical, radiation, radiofrequency, and noise exposures. (10%)
- Investigate complaints and reports of unsafe working conditions and provide recommended abatement actions. (10%)
- Prepare reports, presentations, briefings, corrective actions plan etc., as needed to be delivered to all levels of staff. (10%)
- Provide back-up support for other EHS programmatic needs and other duties as assigned. (10%)

- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or other environmental health and safety (EHS) related field.
- 1-3 years' experience in the EHS field.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including experience with group presentations and training.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant federal and state laws and regulations regarding environmental health and safety.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, communicate effectively, and project a positive attitude.
- Proficiency/demonstrated capabilities in Microsoft Office
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments with minimal direct supervision.
- Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) designation
- Eligible to progress toward obtaining Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
Security: Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information up to the Secret level. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
