The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, is located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Recruiter.
Provide full lifecycle and campus recruiting services focusing primarily on engineering, cyber, information technology and related technical fields.
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of customer's business areas and types of work, their unique needs, culture, skills, staffing requirements, and staffing challenges. Manage the interaction with hiring managers and serve as an advisor to managers, department staff, and others. (10%)
- Develop and implement creative, state-of-the art recruiting strategies to source top talent through various channels. Apply an understanding of different types of technical work and varying recruiting approaches for different types of technical staff (e.g. engineers versus research scientists). Pre-screen and interview candidates; market APL as an employer-of-choice; build and maintain effective communications and relationships with candidates and hiring managers; calculate and extend employment offers; ensure proper compliance with all applicable policies and statutes. (40%)
- As needed, assist the College Recruiting office. Organize and participate in campus recruiting events and develop and incorporate recruiting strategies and techniques to source top entry-level talent. (30%)
- Develop and deliver staffing summaries for various management audiences. Utilize knowledge of HR data sources and strong computer skills to gather, prepare, and analyze data and information for various staffing reports and summaries. Prepare and deliver effective communications that synthesize information and convey ideas in written and orally presented formats to audiences of all levels. (10%)
- Participate in Talent Acquisition team meetings to collaborate on the development of effective recruiting approaches. Meet and communicate regularly with HR Strategic Partner group staff about sector-specific hiring challenges, operational issues, and mission area direction. (5%)
- Participate on teams or projects with within the Talent Acquisition Group and Laboratory, as needed. (5%)

- 2 years of technical recruiting experience focused on engineering, cyber, and/or information sciences.
- 2 years of college recruiting experience focused on both full-time and internship employment.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in establishing strong working relationships with hiring managers and ability to advise managers effectively on hiring-related matters.
- A proven ability to develop candidate pipelines as well as an in-depth knowledge of sourcing and research skills.
- Ability to handle multiple and changing priorities.
- Ability to function effectively in a process-intensive environment.
- Knowledge of current employment laws.
- Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems (e.g., Taleo).
- BS/BA degree in Business, Human Resources, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience recruiting candidates with security clearances desired.
Special working conditions: Occasional out of town travel and extended hours.
Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
