Job Summary: The Acoustics and Electromagnetics Group (KTY) is seeking a physicist to develop and evaluate advanced acoustic and electromagnetic concepts for undersea warfare (USW), conduct system performance analysis, and develop physics phenomenology and performance models. Responsibilities include acoustic and electromagnetic system concept development, development of models for acoustic and electromagnetic phenomena affecting USW systems, analysis of real-world and exercise data, and sea test planning.


  1. Develop and evaluate advanced sonar and electromagnetic system concepts and models of performance for undersea warfare applications (35%)
  2. Conduct data analysis and compare results with model predictions (35%)
  3. Document and present results (30%)

Required Qualifications: PhD degree in physics, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, or related discipline with experience in acoustics and/or electromagnetics applications or alternatively an MS degree in a related technical discipline with at least 3 years of related work experience and demonstrated research capabilities. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Well developed computer programming skills applicable to scientific analysis (e.g., MATLAB, Fortran).

Desired Qualifications: Professional experience in acoustics and electromagnetics systems development and evaluation for undersea warfare applications. Experience leading project teams.

Special Working Conditions: Working in closed area facilities. Occasional travel to support meetings and participation in field tests, which may include aboard civilian or Navy ships associated with experiment conduct.

Security: Top Secret clearance is required to perform the essential functions of the job. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
