Ocean Systems/Electrical Engineer
Introduction: The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Ocean Systems and Electrical Engineer for the Engineering and Test Group of the Force Projection Sector.
Job Summary: Provide technical leadership for the activities of the Systems Engineering Section (KME-5) of the Ocean Engineering and Test Group in the Force Projection Sector. Lead technical efforts, provide detailed engineering as well as broad systems engineering expertise to existing programs in the Force Projection Sector. The position involves modeling, design, development, and testing of maritime systems.
- Design sensor and instrumentation systems, including RF design, analog and digital circuit design, and data acquisition system design. Generate design images and provide documentation. Work with fabrication staff and other engineers to plan for and lead fabrication and assembly. (30%)
- Provide technical leadership and direction pertaining to design, development, and testing of sensors, sensor systems, and ocean systems technologies for deployment to support mission relevant operations of various government sponsors in the Sea Control Mission Area (40%)
- Develop project/test plans and conduct land/ocean based field tests/demonstrations of advanced sensor systems. Write test reports. Brief designs, test plans, and test reports to upper management and sponsors. (20%)
- Work with program managers to expand the breadth of technical challenges and explore new areas to which the group could contribute. Support sponsor engagement and concept development. (10%)

Required Qualifications: BS degree in an engineering discipline (electrical engineering, computer engineering, systems engineering), or other related degree with 7 years of relevant engineering experience. Excellent technical writing and presentation skills. Demonstrated experience with the design, development, testing, and deployment of maritime sensor systems, from initial concepts through fabrication and bench/field tests. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff including engineers, scientists, and technicians as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Previous experience as a team lead or project manager.
Desired Qualifications: MS degree in an engineering discipline (electrical engineering, computer engineering, systems engineering), or a related degree with 5 years or relevant engineering experience. Experience in design of underwater acoustic and non-acoustic sensor systems. Experience with software packages such as LabView, Altium, etc.
Special Working Conditions: Up to 15% travel required in support of technical work. Work in closed areas and periodic extended hours are required.
Security: Secret Clearance is required. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
