Network Engineer

Introduction:

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Network Engineer.

Job Summary:

Develop advanced wireless cyber capabilities supporting for DoD and Intelligence Community sponsors. Contribute networking expertise to the ideation, development and deployment of cyber capabilities for projects of national significance.

Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):

1. Assist in the development of cyber capabilities through the exploitation of wireless networking technologies at the network layer and above in the OSI network model. (50%)

2. Evaluate networking effects of cyber exploitations through a combination of laboratory and field test and evaluation (25%)

5. Perform Small scale network design and optimization via lab implementations as well as modeling and simulation (25%)

Required Qualifications:

BS degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline. At least 5 years of experience developing networking solutions, networking software applications, or modeling the functions of networked communications systems. Experience designing, configuring, and evaluating computer networks including configuring routers, switches, and firewalls. Experience with network layer and above protocols. Active DoD or IC TS clearance. Willingness to work off site.

Desired Qualifications:

MS, Ph.D. or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline. 10 years of experience as per above. Familiarity with commercial WPAN, WLAN, WMAN, and cellular wireless technology standards.

Knowledge of and experience with US military communications or intelligence collection systems. Knowledge of open-source vulnerabilities and exploitation tools, and network security tools. Experience with some of the following: Unix/Linux, Cisco iOS, or OpenFlow SDN. Expertise with several of the following: C , Python, MATLAB, WireShark, SNMP. Demonstrated ability and/or interest in leading projects within the scope of the required qualifications.

Special Working Conditions:

May be required to work a large portion of the time at sponsor locations within 30 miles of APL campus. Will travel both inside and outside the continental US. Willingness to work off-site from JHU/APL up to 80% of the time.

Security: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. Must be eligible for DOD clearance requiring background investigation and/or polygraph examination. Preference for current SSBI.
