Modeling & Simulation Engineer

Do you find analyzing and understanding complex dynamic systems exciting and challenging?

Do you love developing object-oriented software in C or Matlab/Simulink and contributing to large software projects?

Are you looking for meaningful work developing physics-based simulations that support our warfighters?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking a creative, motivated engineer to help us develop high fidelity simulations of US weapons, threat missiles, and submersibles. You will have opportunities to perform groundbreaking development of guidance and control (G&C) algorithms, conduct analyses of weapon performance, and testing of missile systems that help protect our country. You'll participate as a member of hardworking, deeply knowledgeable teams of engineers and software developers all focused on creating simulations of existing and future weapons and threats. We use a multi-disciplined approach to connect with specialists from across the Laboratory to develop software models of complex missile components, design innovative algorithms, and build simulation architectures.

As an APL Modeling and Simulation Engineer...

  • Your primary responsibility will be to design algorithms and computer models and then implement and test them in dynamic simulations using MATLAB and modern C .
  • You will build high fidelity, six degree-of-freedom simulations for US weapons, US Navy threats, and submersibles.
  • You will modify and use simulations to analyze flight performance for existing US missiles and missile systems.
  • You will implement and assess guidance and control algorithms for next-generation missiles.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Possess a BS degree in engineering, physics, computer science, applied mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Have 2 to 3 years experience developing high-fidelity physics-based simulations.
  • Possess excellent knowledge of modern C software development.
  • Have experience with MATLAB/Simulink or systems analysis skills.
  • Have some background in missile flight dynamics or G&C.
  • Are a U.S. citizen and are able to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by your start date. Upon selection, a government security clearance investigation will be initiated to obtain a final secret clearance and to ensure the requirements for accessing classified information are met.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements ifyou...

  • Possess an MS or PhD degree in a related technical field.
  • Have the ability to research and develop expertise in a variety of systems including missiles, UAVs, UUVs, and submersibles.
  • Have experience developing large software architectures.
  • Have exposure to guidance and control algorithms
