In the Electro-optic and Infrared Technologies and Systems Group, you will help us contribute to the design, development, and testing of advanced microwave photonic prototypes for various defense applications. You will participate in system modeling and model validation, data analysis and system architecture. You will have opportunities to formally document work in sponsor briefings and reports, academic journals, and conference presentations.
As a Microwave and Photonics Engineer...
•Your primary responsibility will be crafting optical subsystem hardware based on components such as lasers, modulators, photodiodes, and passive components.
•You will support evaluation of optical, electrical, and microwave hardware through benchtop testing using optical test equipment, bit error rate tester, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, and other test equipment.
•You will build prototype systems and conduct critical experiments while helping to develop requirements to support design and test activity, develop test plans to verify performance against requirements.
•You will make an impact by detailing work into formal and informal technical reports, including presentations, conference proceedings, and journal articles.
You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
•Possess a B.S. degree in electrical engineering, physics, optics or a related field.
•A minimum of 1 year experience with optical and microwave test and measurement equipment.
•Are familiar with MATLAB and Python.
•Are driven by the ability to contribute to research and development programs focusing on state of the art optical/microwave subsystems.
•Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
•Are able to obtain a Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

•Possess a M.S. degree or 2 years of experience in a relevant field.
•Have experience with millimeter-wave technologies, photonic signal processing, mode-locked lasers or photonic integrated circuits.
•Have experience modeling optical systems in MATLAB or Python.
•Have experience with digital or wireless communications, electronic warfare, or radar systems.
•Can work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
•Are able to obtain Top Secret level security clearance.
