IT Administrator


The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an IT Administrator.

Job Summary:

Provide information technology expertise by teaming with Asymmetric Operations Sector (AOS) project teams to carry out the sponsor's mission. Manage and administer AOS computing facilities to ensure facilities are in compliance with current APL policies, InfoSec guidance, industry best practices, and NISPOM rules and regulations. Provide computer hardware/software support in configuring and maintaining systems used in laboratory environments and field tests. Participate with line and program leadership in providing cost-effective computing facilities which support direct funded tasking.


  • Partnering with AOS project teams to provide technical support for AOS classified and unclassified computing facilities in support of government programs and missions. This include installing/configuring/troubleshooting software applications and hardware as well as identifying new software and hardware needs. (80%)
  • Provide hardware/software support and integration for internal sector information technology projects. Meet with project managers to understand project scope and priorities. Identify and coordinate the procurement of required hardware/software. (10%)
  • Provide technical guidance and participate in collaborative activities with AOS systems administrators, facility managers, and facility administrators to ensure close coordination, cooperation, and consistency in AOS computing and facility processes and procedures. (10%).

Required Qualifications:

BS in information technology field. Four years of relevant professional level experience may be substituted for degree. Demonstrated experience with Windows server and desktop operating systems, including Active Directory, DNS, etc. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to satisfy DoD 8570 requirements within 6 months of hire date (Sec , CISSP, or other approved certification). Ability to identify project/program needs and develop strong technical, innovative solutions for addressing use of existing and future computing resources. Demonstrated ability to be timely and agile in a dynamic environment.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience with any of the following technologies: VMWare ESX, Microsoft desktop products, Network storage, Linux, Cisco networking.

Any of the following certifications: MCSE, Dell, Sec , CASP/CISSP

Special Working Conditions:

Occasional travel to field test sites to install/deinstall field test computer equipment.


Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for a NAC/LAC and access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Applicants should also have the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance
