Instrument Low and High Voltage DC/DC Converter Design Engineer
Introduction: The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a design engineer for instrument Low and High Voltage DC/DC Converters.
Job Summary: Perform specification, design, analysis and development or specification, procurement and test of instrument low and high voltage DC/DC converters.
- Specification, design, analysis and development of instrument Low and/or high voltage DC/DC converter. Develop flight and ground board-level hardware for DC/DC converter and ancillary power handling circuitry, such as under-voltage lockout, power-on reset signaling, oscillator synchronization, current limiting, and other circuits.
- Design ground test equipment in support of 1 above.
- Support design reviews, instrument level integration and testing, etc.

- B.S. in electrical engineering; at least 7 years of hands-on hardware design and development experience in various DC/DC converter topologies and analog power circuits.
- Knowledge of EMI/EMC, analog circuit simulation programs, magnetic design, state-space averaging and linearization techniques for control loop analysis and modeling of PWM converter circuits and systems.
- Candidate must be eligible and willing to apply for a security clearance.
Desired Qualifications: Leadership and organizational capabilities. Relevant space flight hardware experience is desired. Good verbal and written communication skills. Capable of working independently and mentoring early career engineers.
