Image Processing Engineer

Introduction: The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Image Processing Engineer.

Job Summary: Image processing and system design of Synthetic Aperture Radar and multi-spectral and hyperspectral imaging systems for remote sensing applications with a focus on maritime interests within the Sea Control Mission Area.


  • Signal processing and signal classification algorithm development (50%)
  • Data analysis and support to test and verification of developed algorithms (40%)
  • Documentation of work to include reports, informal memos and presentations (10%)

Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline, physics, or mathematics. At least five years of experience conducting systems level development support to include physical modeling, software engineering, and/or algorithm development in support of Remote Sensing applications.

Desired Qualifications: Master of Science degree in an engineering discipline, physics or mathematics.

Special Working Conditions: Some travel may be required to support field testing (no more than 10% of time). Primary work location will be at the Main Campus in closed areas. Periodic requirement to work extended hours.

Security: TS/SCI Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for an SSBI and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. Preference for current SSBI. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
