The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) would like to add an experienced FPGA Engineer to our diverse team of firmware and software experts. This senior level candidate will develop leading edge innovative components, with primary focus on the development of new concepts and software/hardware implementations for SDR applications including cognitive radio, cognitive EW, radar, digital beamforming, distributed sensing and machine learning. The ideal candidate will gain experience in application area of EW in embedding algorithms into FPGA-based software-defined radios (SDR) and general purpose processors (GPP). Future RF systems will produce gigabyte-per-second amounts of data requiring innovative new approaches in real-time signal processing.
1. Develop new concepts and prototypes for FPGA applications in communications, radar and EW including cognitive radio and digital array techniques.
2. Lead interdisciplinary APL and sub-contractor teams in all aspects of system engineering from concept development through integration and test.
3. Analyze emerging SDR technologies and applications, evaluate direction of the SDR industry and make recommendations to government and APL leadership.
4. Work with APL staff and sub-contractors to put together cost, performance and schedule.

BS degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with eight (8) or more years of experience directly related to FPGA technologies. Demonstrated FPGA development experience on mid to large scale Xilinx (UltraScale, Virtex, Kintex) or Altera (Stratix, Arria) FPGAs.
Ability to obtain a Secret clearance or higher.
Experience with high-level synthesis of FPGAs using tools such as Matlab HDL Coder, OpenCL, Vivado-HLS, and Quartus.
Some software development experience
Prior experience desired, but not required, in EW systems, cognitive radio, dynamic spectrum access and/or policy based radio architectures
Special Working Conditions: Travel up to 10%.
