Electronic Warfare Systems Engineer

Introduction:

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, is located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC, is seeking an experienced Electronic Warfare Systems Engineer.

Job Summary: Coordinate and lead systems engineering activities related to the joint Australian/U.S. Navy's Nulka Decoy development program. Work across the APL engineering community, other Navy and contractor organizations to ensure sound systems engineering practices are in place and being followed. Provide systems engineering subject matter expertise to the government and APL staff assigned to the program.

Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):

  • Organize, manage, lead and participate in system engineering technical reviews. Work with Government and contractor representatives to ensure the plans and products are in place and completed to support successful in-process, milestone and configuration management reviews. Organize and lead technical assessments on behalf of the Government. Participate in program leadership meetings and ensure consistency of system engineering products across the program. (50%)
  • Ensure technical direction is established and maintained through consistent communication across partner labs, government offices, and foreign stakeholders. (20%)
  • Document and present analysis results, and communicate technical significance to senior government leadership. (15%)
  • Assist in the design of current and future EW engagement capabilities by analyzing component and system level behavior. Develop analysis plans with relevant metrics, and gather performance data using existing analysis tools and models. (15%)

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineer, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or other related engineering discipline with five to ten years of relevant experience in electronic warfare technologies. Experience using common computer languages used for scientific work, such as MatLab or C . Proven track record of managing a task to success, including setting expectations, meeting deadlines, and leading without authority. Ability to effectively communicate with senior level leadership on complex technologies, and subjects. Must have an active Top Secret clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or other related engineering discipline with 10 years of relevant experience in electronic warfare technologies.

Special Working Conditions: Position will require 2-3 days a week local travel within the DC metro area. Occasional travel (<10%) both foreign and domestic, to support technical reviews.

Security: Active Top Secret Clearance Required.
