Discrimination/Signal Processing Subject Matter Expert
The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Missile 6DOF Analyst and Developer.
Job Summary: Be a leader for missile signal processing efforts including SM-3 software upgrade programs. Develop and analyze new discrimination and signal processing algorithms to improve performance of existing and developing missile systems against advanced threats and raids.
- Identify drivers and gaps in current missile capabilities and propose new or enhanced algorithms to improve performance. (30%)
- Implement proposed algorithms into existing medium and high fidelity missile simulations. Perform testing, verification, and validation of new capabilities. (30%)
- Evaluate algorithms against advanced threat and raid scenarios. Design new scenarios as necessary to stress drivers and demonstrate performance improvements. (30%)
- Deliver formal presentations to sponsors and design agents to communicate proposed concepts, solutions and analyses results. Produce documentation to capture all relevant missile engineering tasks including technical recommendations. (10%)

Required Qualifications: MS in Electrical, Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Minimum of 5 years of research, analysis, and modeling experience. Excellent leadership, technical, and communication skills. Proficient in Matlab and/or C . Must be able to obtain a Top Secret level clearance. Can start with an interim Secret.
Desired Qualifications: PhD in Electrical, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related field. Experience with Ballistic Missile Defense, signal processing, sensors, and discrimination. Knowledgeable on machine learning, big data, GPU, and grid computing. Active Secret.
Special Working Conditions: Occasional travel to Huntsville, AL, Dahlgren Va., Tucson, AZ. and other government and contractor sites.
Security: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
