Cyber Operations Expert


The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Cyber Operations Expert.

Job Summary: This applicant will be a senior member of the Cyber Operations Branch with knowledge of the field, reputation in the community, and strategic thinking to develop future directions.

Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):

  • Provide thought leadership and technical expertise in the advancement and application of mission assurance for enterprise networks and mission systems, full spectrum cyber operations and big data problems such as cyber situational awareness. Lead multiple, simultaneous development projects. (40%)
  • Develop new business and form strategic alliances with key sponsors in the Defense, Intelligence and Government communities. (30%)
  • Provide technical leadership in helping the cyber operations branch build a coherent vision and supporting strategies, and executing them to deliver critical contributions. (20%)
  • Serve on national level boards to help advance national security. (10%)

Required Qualifications:

M.S. or PhD in a technical discipline such as computer science, mathematics, physics or electrical engineering. Strategic thinker with systems engineering experience and the ability to integrate ideas from multiple disciplines. Recognized expertise in information technology and knowledge of commercial industry directions. Proven track record in developing new concepts. Commitment to ensuring national security missions. Excellent speaking and writing skills and experience in effectively communicating to both technical and non-technical audiences. Must possess a TS security clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

Previous experience working with intelligence community and DoD sponsors. Experience supporting strategic planning. Recognition in the cyber community as an authority in the field. Previous success in creatively addressing hard, real-world problems, delivering results. Preference for active TS/SCI with full scope poly clearance.

Special Working Conditions: Some local travel required.

Security: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
