Airborne Electronic Attack Systems Engineer

Job Summary: Develop electronic countermeasures waveforms and conduct analysis of countermeasures techniques effectiveness against current and next-generation airborne and land-based radars via high-fidelity modeling and simulation tools.


  • Develop optimized jamming waveforms against land-based and airborne radar threats that can be achieved by standoff, close-in, or self-protection jamming systems. Jamming waveforms will need to be tailorable to attack the range, velocity, or angle measurement and tracking capabilities of the threat, as well as the basic radar detection process. (25%)
  • Investigate the optimization of simultaneous jamming waveforms from standoff, close-in, and self-protection systems to achieve synergistic effects among the systems. Jamming waveforms can be potentially produced via coherent repeater techniques (eg, DRFM-based), synthesizer techniques, (eg, DDS-based), or Arbitrary Waveform Generation techniques. (25%)
  • Quantify jamming waveform effectiveness and utility via use of high fidelity modeling and simulation tools. Work with M&S tool development team to add new capabilities to the existing tool set. (25%)
  • Participate in chamber and open-air testing of electronic warfare systems against threat radars and RF guided missiles. This includes pre-test planning and analysis, on-site participation in testing, post-test analysis, and documentation and reporting. (25%)

Required Qualifications: BS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science/Engineering, or other engineering discipline, with five years of experience in radar systems analysis. Understanding of waveforms and signal processing used by land-based and airborne radars. Understanding of range, velocity, and angle measurement approaches and tracking techniques. Ability to work as a team with numerous engineers and various levels of experience and technical skills. Effective communicator, both written and orally.

Desired Qualifications: MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science/Engineering, or other engineering discipline. Experience with phased array antenna steering and adaptive beam-forming. Experience with electronic countermeasures against range, velocity, and angle measurement and tracking. Knowledge of key subsystems, including transmit and receive antennas, high power RF amplifiers, electronic support measures receivers, and waveform generators, threat radar and weapon systems that comprise the threat IADS. Experience with hardware-in-loop countermeasures testing and analysis. Ability to develop algorithms to assess jamming technique effectiveness. Hands-on experience with "industry standard" models, such as ESAMS, that can be used to quantify jamming technique effectiveness. Experience with operational aspects of electronic warfare.

Special Working Conditions: Majority of time spent working in closed areas.

Security: TS/SCI Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for an SSBI and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. Preference for current SSBI. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
