Airborne Electronic Attack Radio Frequency (RF) Systems Engineer

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Airborne Electronic Attack Systems Engineer.

Job Summary: Participate in radio frequency (RF) system engineering aspects of the development of next-generation airborne electronic attack systems.

Duties:

  • Provide RF systems engineering expertise and develop system requirements for next-generation electronic warfare subsystems and components for Air Force and Navy offensive and defensive electronic attack systems. Key subsystems include transmit and receive antennas, high power RF amplifiers, electronic support measures receivers, and waveform generators. (30%)

Work with Government and Industry partners in the development of next-generation jamming systems. Support trade studies that analyze and compare airborne electronic attack system concepts and technology alternatives in terms of effectiveness, cost, and risk. Support the use of models and simulations to quantify the effectiveness of electronic attack systems against RF and IR threats in operational environments. (30%)

  • Perform threat vulnerability analysis and threat characterization in support of electronic warfare system development and operational use of electronic warfare platforms and systems. (20%)

  • Participate in all aspects of open-air testing of electronic attack systems against RF and IR threats. This includes pre-test planning and analysis, on-site participation in testing, post-test analysis, and documentation and reporting. (20%)

    Required Qualifications: B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or other related discipline with two years of relevant experience in RF systems engineering and analysis and development of RF subsystems, or MS degree in these fields. Ability to work as a team with numerous engineers and various levels of experience and technical skills. Effective communicator, both written and orally.

    Desired Qualifications: M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or other engineering discipline with two years of relevant experience. Knowledge of key subsystems, including transmit and receive antennas, high power RF amplifiers, electronic support measures receivers, and waveform generators, threat radar and weapon systems that comprise the threat IADS. Experience with operational aspects of electronic warfare. Knowledge of jammer system control and signal processing algorithms and of "precision" passive detection and tracking concepts.

    Special Working Conditions: Position will require approximately 10% local and out of town travel to government and contractor facilities and special test ranges.

    Security: TS/SCI Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for an SSBI and access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. Preference for current SSBI. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
