Associate , Local


The Associate will have day-to-day responsibility for a large beverage alcohol client investing aggressively in key local markets.   He/she is expected to develop deep understanding of the client’s business and marketing objectives, provide mid-level strategic recommendations and act as steward of the tactical planning process. The Associate is expected to have strong working knowledge of the media space (including digital media) and available media research. They are also expected to be proficient with Carat tools and procedures (both media and inter-department).   The Associate is expected to be an active participant on the business; consistently engaged and contributing ideas and insights that will benefit our clients.


Media Planning and Execution:

  • Develop deep local knowledge of media landscape in multiple key markets
  • Aid in the creation of local client media objectives and strategiesCreate and maintain media plan flowcharts and media buy authorizations based on client’s various initiatives
  • Maintain media budgets or media spend summaries
  • Work in conjunction with AMP on billing and invoicing to maintain consistent process
  • Keep abreast of invoice, billing and delivery issues; know when to escalate discrepancies
  • Write POVs as needed and evaluate new media types / outlets
  • Provide syndicated research support during development of Objectives & Strategies and plans
  • Compile reports of competitive market/media information for each brand/category
  • Manage added value / merchandising components of media buys
  • Create and manage estimates and enter buying specs/goals into DDS
  • Meet with media reps and coordinate with other Carat specialty units as required



Client & Internal Relationships:

  • Help LMD manage expectations of clients and deliverables
  • Assist LMD in advising clients on integrating media with commercial and promotional programs
  • Keep up with latest trends in media and with the growth of local media properties
  • Build positive relationships with internal and external teams Strategic Thinking & Leadership:
  • Strategizes ways to most effectively use media dollars to the greatest benefit for our clients
  • Assess problems and concerns in a systematic, logical and rational manner
  • Proactively resolve issues, know when and to whom to escalate
  • Actively develop working relationships with fellow planners in other local markets to nurture/promote team building and generate best practice sharing to benefit client
  • Construct and deliver accurate, honest and timely performance management documents
  • Manage multiple deliverables and seamlessly transition among them

  • Organize ideas and information logically and sequentially
  • Assist in development of media presentations and tactical POVs

  • Ensure key information is provided to team regarding client issues, internal agency issues, etc.


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2+ years of media planning/buying experience
  • Participation in at least one full planning cycle and implementation of at least two media plans
  • Thorough understanding of media process from start to end.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and present well-considered ideas and solutions
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment; adapt plans due to changes in client objectives, priorities or budgets while minimizing impact on project momentum
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to relate results to client business objectives
  • Balanced ability to perform analytically and creativel
  • Media vendor negotiation experience
  • Experience with online research tools such as Nielsen, @Plan, AdRelevance, etc.
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
