Graduate Technical Intern - Storage Systems Research

The mission of Intel Labs is to drive technology leadership for Intel. This includes coordinating research and development among several business groups and aligning Intel's strategies and technologies with future industry needs. The Emerging Systems Lab (ESL) in the Systems and Software Research (SSR) Group in Intel Labs conducts research to identify innovative technologies and capabilities for end-to-end (edge to cloud) infrastructure and solutions
One growth area is storage systems - including block, file, and object (cloud) storage.
The ESL team is looking for a graduate research intern who can take part in the many facets of storage systems research. Storage is a multi-disciplinary field, including operating systems, networking, distributed systems, along with AI and deep learning.
A successful candidate will join the Advanced Storage Research team (ASR), become a core member of the team, and help develop and evaluate prototypes and proofs of concept. There will also be opportunities to work directly with- product groups to help shape the future.
Minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:
• Enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
• Completed coursework in operating systems, networking, and distribute systems
• A strong systems background (Linux, C/C , Python/Bash/Make)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of Linux kernel internals (e.g., file and block layers, device drivers)
• Experience with machine learning
• Experience with object storage (e.g., Amazon's S3)
