Manufacturing Engineering Manager

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager oversees the development and implementation of manufacturing processes to maintain proper product functionality as well as cost efficiency; ensures the technical team and other manufacturing departments work together cohesively and are responsible for the development of equipment and facilities to aid in the manufacturing process; leads and directs the work of assigned Technical, Facilities Managers and Process Engineers as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all manufacturing safety regulatory policies and procedures are implemented and maintained at all times to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. This includes correct PPE, lock out tag out compliance, fall protection and certified user program for equipment and tools.
  • Assesses and provides opportunities for professional growth and development through external and internal education.
  • Manage annual goals / objectives, performs Personal Development Reviews (PDR) on direct reports, fostering individual growth and development.
  • Responsible for the attainment of the plant budget as it relates to the technical group expenses.
  • Ensures the quality of product meets all specifications.
  • Runs continuous improvement plans/projects to KPIs such as yield, set up times, FTR, MTBF.
  • Provides collaborative, supportive yet challenging leadership to the Technical Group personnel.
  • Upholds a culture of mutual respect, trust, accountability, hard work, dedication and teamwork.
  • Manage investigations and improvements into manufacturing product / processing issues, focusing on tooling / machinery improvements and Lean Principles.
  • Analyze and design lean manufacturing cells using effective systems and simulation tools to optimize, use of space, equipment, material and personnel.
  • Assist in developing plant layout in planning rearrangement of facilities, equipment and operations for better utilization of space.
  • Work closely with research and development, quality assurance to prevent problems with products and tooling/fixtures.
  • Stay informed concerning new manufacturing technologies and equipment in order to manufacture and reduce cost through efficiencies.
  • Support all current and new product introductions.
  • Ensure vendors/subcontractors are manufacturing products according to product specifications.
  • Able to assist in reducing cost through re-engineering process/product/material.
  • Manage the inventory of spare parts to optimize cost of inventory
  • Assist in the assessment of vendors/ subcontractors for consideration
  • Assist in the management of facilities projects and priorities.
  • Assists in ensures that the facilities are maintained in accordance with local laws and regulations
  • Ensures the accuracy and compliance to procedures and documentation, including accurate information entry into the quality and CMMS systems
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, in addition to four to six years related experience and/or training. Continuing education as required staying abreast of new developments area of expertise.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, MRP/ERP. Proficient in Microsoft Project software. Skilled in 3D modeling software; Solidworks a plus. Knowledge in Lean/6-sigma problem solving. Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under minimal supervision.
  • Able to read, analyze, and interpret common industrial, manufacturing and technical procedures, professional journals, schematics, diagrams, drawings, and blueprints. Write reports, business correspondence, assembly instructions and procedural manuals. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or other members of the manufacturing community.
  • Identify the training and development needs within the organization through appraisal and consultation with peers and co-workers. Build the training resources and materials of the technical group; this would include training notes and presentations, training materials and methodologies, e-learning materials, DVDs, videos, etc.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma Required. LSSBB preferred or the ability to achieve certification within 2 years.
