Indigo Partners, Sensor Operations Associate - Iowa (Temporary)

The Indigo Partners UAV Pilot will capture massive quantities of aerial data for the Indigo Partners Program, a unique agricultural R&D platform that brings together leading growers from across the US to assess and validate new technologies, generating insights that will bring innovative products to market. This role will require pilots to fly both fixed and copter drones from Indigo’s fleet, and will require operation of a variety of cutting-edge payloads. Key responsibilities will include expert operation of drones, high-quality data capture, independent problem-solving in the field, execution and development of company standard operating and safety procedures, as well as the ability to drive long distances. Depending on aptitude and interest, responsibilities may be extended to include deploying and maintaining innovative new agricultural devices and monitoring key metrics of crop and environmental health.

Position Type: Contract; 6-9 months



  • Captures 4000+ acres of high-quality aerial imagery data once a week for the duration of the growing season
  • Takes a leadership role in creating a community of learning and excellence amongst all Indigo drone pilots
  • Follows company standard operating procedures to ensure safety and high-quality, efficient data capture
  • Provides feedback and a spirit of continuous improvement to further develop company standard operating procedures
  • Solves emergent problems in the field pertaining to equipment and weather safely, efficiently, and responsibly
  • Maintains equipment to the highest standards
  • Drives company vehicles safely and responsibly
  • Coordinates business travel economically and effectively
  • Collects plant and environmental health data following standard operating procedures as needed
  • Represents Indigo at all times with the highest degree of professionalism

Attributes and Competencies:

  • Outstanding sense of responsibility for self, team, and equipment
  • Thorough understanding of FAA rules and regulations
  • Minimum Sport Aircraft License or Remote Pilot License
  • Minimum 1 year relevant experience operating commercial UAV systems (ideally both copter and fixed-wing)
  • Ability to solve problems, especially mechanical ones, under pressure
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to travel extensively to farmer’s fields to deploy and maintain technologies
  • Proficiency operating computers, especially Windows 10 and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Part 107 Certification
  • Ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree, additional pilot license certifications, 3 years operating commercial UAVs, ability maintain FAA documentation, and a background in farming
