Engineering Lead - ixCloud

As we prepare for significant planned growth to our already high levels of traffic, we are seeking to hire a highly technical Engineering Lead into our ixCloud team who will initiate and impact DevOps across the organization. While Operations is a defined team, we believe that DevOps is a way of thinking and we are looking for candidates who can seamlessly work across different engineering teams to bring complex and challenging projects to fruition.

Here’s what we want:

  • Facilitator: It’s essential that you can relay technical information and ideas effectively both within and across different teams. While we place a huge premium on technical skill, we value just as much your ability to work with other people.
  • Adaptable: Our industry moves fast, and we need you to keep up and adapt. Acting as a DevOps Engineer, you can prioritize tasks, often against competing scope and timelines.
  • Technical: A strong foundation in Operations, and experience in solving complex problems and building solutions (including CI/CD, real-time monitoring, production issues, etc.)
  • Rigorous: We design and manage massive, globally distributed systems that handle billions of transactions a day - your approach and solutions need to be thorough, scalable, and ironclad.

Here’s What You have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent
  • 7+ years of industry-related experience
  • 2-3 years as a direct mentor of 5-10 person teams
  • Deep understanding of algorithms, design patterns, debugging and performance
  • Deep understanding of storage systems, disaster recovery and business continuity
  • A passion for cutting edge technologies, leading teams and nurturing talent amongst
    your reports
  • Experience  driving change and implementing DevOps best practices and technologies is key

  • Automation 
    • You write code in Go, Python, JavaScript, Ruby, Scala 
    • Script with Bash and Perl to continuously replace manual process with automation.  When in doubt – Automate  IT -  is a slogan you know well. 
    • Those with strong container (Docker) and exceptional Kubernetes experience will win our immediate attention.
  • Bare-Metal
    • You understand bare-metal infrastructure, you live and breathe global, highly available, highly scalable, low latency, data infrastructure.
    • You comprehend the power of engineering bare metal solutions offer
    • You are equally aware of the engineering skills required to monitor, maintain and yes - troubleshoot - these systems. 
  •  DevOps/SRE vs DevOps/Tooling - we are hiring both!
    • We have a slight penchant for SRE Gurus and so your expertise may stem from your background in Sys Admin and Site Reliability Engineering – ensuring robust, bullet proof infrastructure that is highly available within a low latency environment and governed by other strict KPIs and SLAs.
      • We like ELK (Elastic, Logstash, Kibana) InfluxDB, Prometheus, Grafana
    • Alternatively, you may come from a Software Engineering DevOps Tools background and feel right at home sitting with development teams, ensuring that the tooling environment is continuously facilitating their work with you are therefore familiar with some of the following:   
      • Ansible, Chef, Puppet,  GitLab CI, Vagrant, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, Elasticsearch, InfluxDB, and Grafana.
  • Data Ops
    • Another big component of the Index Exchange Cloud Operations team are the Data Systems used by our internal teams, our external clients and those monitoring our infrastructure.  While not the owners of these systems the Ops team is the guardian of these systems that ingest, process, store all the data that flows from hundreds of billions of transactions every day
      • This includes MySQL, Postgres, Galera, Vertica, InfluxDB, Big Data, Hadoop and Spark, Kafka etc.   
  • Best in Class
    • Your knowledge and understanding of best-in-class DevOps methodologies and design patterns will be used to positively impact the development, deploymen
