Watson Health - Database Administrator

Job Description

We are searching for a SQL Server Database Administrator to join our Data Management team. Database Administrator will be responsible for performing routine database operational tasks to ensure security, high performance, and availability of IBM's productions and non-production database computing environments. The Database Administrator will occasionally perform database development using advanced Transact SQL. Database Administrator must be familiar with designing and constructing SSIS packages, SSRS reports in order to support the varying needs of our customers.

Location: Dallas, TX

Duties to include:

  • Responsible for the overall health, availability, security, recovery, and responsiveness of production and non-production database environments
  • Work with other departments within the organization to ensure that client needs are addressed expediently
  • Participate in technology selection, tool selection, and IBM's technology road map for the Data Management team
  • Proactively monitor, diagnose, research, and resolve database-related faults and performance problems including high CPU, memory, blocking, deadlocking and timeouts
  • Monitor SQL Server jobs and other database processes to identify and address failed or problematic jobs/processes
  • Work with Release Management team and Software Engineering to plan and deploy database change scripts as prescribed in the Release Readiness Review process
  • Plan and execute database and server migrations, upgrades and patch installation for productions non-production environments
  • Perform database backup and restore operations
  • Manage and monitor disk space utilization to ensure sufficient room for growth for data, logs, and working space
  • Manage SQL Server database security utilizing security roles and other security practices
  • Provide 24/7 production database support
  • Document database processes, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure database projects follow prescribed development life cycle and meet quality standards
  • Conduct or participate in meetings with organizational stakeholders to identify and build solutions to address growing data acquisition, transformation and storage needs.

Requirements:
  • 4+ years of demonstrated track record of successful Database Administration on Microsoft SQL Server 2012/2014/2016 platforms
  • Demonstrated expertise in Transact-SQL and the ability to understand complex queries, stored procedures, triggers, user-defined functions, views, and other database objects
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and operate efficiently under minimal supervision
  • Team player with solid communication skills that excel in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to be flexible and quickly adapt to a changing and high growth environment

Preferred:
  • Experience participating in a software release cycle and version control is very desirable
  • Experience in using RedGate's SQL Compare, Solar winds Database Performance Analyzer, SQL Combine, and Multi-Script a plus
  • Experience with MongoDB and the NoSQL concept a plus
  • Healthcare background a plus
