Student for cloud analytics research

Job Description
IBM Research Lab is looking for outstanding students (undergraduate or graduate) to work as part of a leading team on cutting-edge technologies in the cloud analytics area, contributing to state-of-the-art products and practices.The Cloud Platforms group specializes in technologies for optimization of analytic services on the cloud. The candidate will be exposed to server-side and distributed systems design and programming related to cloud and data infrastructures, and is expected to gain a lot of knowledge and expertise in these areas.

The position involves developing code in various languages (as Python, Java, C, Scala) installing and integrating software packages and performing evaluation and testing of code. The expected scope is about 20 weekly hours during the school year, and more intense during the summer.

We are looking for someone who can learn quickly on their own, with excellent programming capabilities and an understanding of programming models. Knowledge in big data and analytics workload (as Hadoop, Apache Spark) is an advantage.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

- After 3 semesters in computer science or computer engineering
- Hands-on coding experience
- Good English
- Team player

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

- After 5 semesters in computer science or computer engineering
- Knowledge of Cloud technologies
- Familiarity with Open source projects for the cloud
- Languages: Scala, Java, Python, Go
- Familiarity with Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, Apache OpenWhisk
