Enterprise Remote Code Load Apprenticeship (Rotational Shifts)
As a Remote Code Load Technician Apprentice at IBM, you'll work on-site at our IBM office supporting IBM Customers, Developers and the Field support to Update code and support IBM Storage Products. These roles are in support of critical systems worldwide. When performing System Code Loads, the apprentice will work closely with other field engineers and developers to perform system activities on Enterprise Storage Systems, including the DS8000, TS7700, TS4500 and all Physical Tape products. The position is located in Tucson, AZ, and will not require travel to other cities but the client systems will be located around the world. This will require interaction so soft skills are critical, during planning phases and execution phases of the remote code load. The work will most likely be performed during client low use periods in the evenings or weekends. While performing the remote code load, it is necessary to be alert and watching for any errors or concerns; and then receive assistance from experts should an error occur. Skills required include: verbal communication, attention to detail, scripting languages, system maintenance like firmware updates, and computer skills.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll work closely with experienced Developers, PFE's and mentors in the environment to support customers, with focus on running Concurrent Remote Code Load. The position requires extensive detailed and precise operation of Computers, systems of programs, identification and resolution of issues and defect identification and repair.
What is an Apprenticeship?
IBM Apprenticeship Program is an official registered apprenticeship recognized by the Department of Labor (DOL). Every graduate of a Registered Apprenticeship program receives a nationally-recognized credential from the DOL.
During the apprenticeship duration, you will be required to complete specific learning hours and on the job training that has been outlined to ensure you are developing the skills and competencies essential to the role. You will be able to learn and grow at your own pace, but we expect most apprentices will complete their learning within 12 months. Once you graduate and receive your certificate from our apprentice program, you will be eligible to apply to available full-time roles at IBM.

What's the experience?
As an apprentice, you'll join with other apprentices in a local cohort. You'll go through your first few weeks together, learning about IBM and the skills you'll be attaining throughout your apprenticeship. Then, you'll work with your managers and mentors to progress through your personal skills roadmap, learning and demonstrating new knowledge and competencies through hands-on application with your project teams.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- Willingness to complete the requirements of the apprenticeship program
- Willingness to work a rotational shift that could include second or third shift in addition to some weekends.
- Some knowledge or experience with the following:
- Computer Programming languages like java or C.
- Unix/Linux/AIX skills and scripting skills
- Ability to interact with Computer systems in precise and accurate way, with Focus on Quality
