IT Specialist - Long Term Supplemental
Early professional, individual contributor role, responsible for on-site support for a team of researchers and developers, with a focus on support of personal workstations and administration of cloud services. Personal workstation support requires desk-side support trouble-shooting technical issues with laptops and workstations, including assistance with the installation of software packages, hardware troubleshooting, networking and connectivity issues, and similar. Cloud support requires support for IBM researchers and developers, along with student, post-doc and faculty collaborators from MIT, and funding members. Requirements include support for cloud based software packages for the operation of the lab, such as RFP submission and evaluation tools, assistance with setup of cloud-infrastructure, software setup , and usage monitoring.
As the sole IT support specialist for IBM Research Cambridge and the MIT-IBM Watson Lab, this role requires self-starting and persistence, due to the complexity of the software and research environment required by the team, and technical difficulties with the cloud environment and applications.
Your Role and Responsibilities
I/T Service Desk Analyst who will support a Research client environment. Analyst will intercept, document, troubleshoot, resolve and communicate issues via walk in and ticket system. Responsible for configuring and maintaining LINUX, MAC and Windows operating systems, troubleshooting, configuring applications and network components along with implementing patches and updates to improve reliability and performance. Application Integration & middleware support skills a must. Should be familiar with mobile device support including phones and tablets.
Knowledge sharing and management is key to IBM's success. Individuals will participate in, and/or be responsible for the creation, harvesting, protection, and reuse of IBM's intellectual capital. They will participate actively in knowledge sharing activities with peers from the World Wide Research labs and like communities within IBM.
Required Professional and Technical Expertise
- At least 2 years experience in a technical environment.
- At least 6 months experience in customer service with the ability to work in a high volume environment.
- At least 6 months experience in PC usage and typical end user problems.
- Bachelor in Computer Science degree preferred
