IBM Cloud Facilities Engineer

The Facilities Engineer will ensure that a variety of data center related construction projects are completed on time, within budget and to IBM Cloud standard specifications. These will include electrical and mechanical installations, raised floor electrical fit out, office space build outs and much more.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Manage the mechanical and electrical design for new data centers to fit the standard IBM Cloud deployment
  • Manage the electrical fit-out process all the way down to the rack connection point on the data center floor so operations teams can begin deploying servers
  • Manage, track and report progress on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ensure electrical and mechanical loads are designed to be balanced with proper redundancy
  • Manage electrical installation commissioning process to IBM Cloud standards
  • Conduct bid process and recommend successful bidder
  • Perform budget preparation and tracking
  • Validate project invoices prior to processing
  • Point of contact for all MoPs for designated sites (Review, Execution, and Reporting)
  • Point of contact for all RCAs as they relate to outages (Review, Escalate, and Distribute)
  • Annual facilities engineering review, conducted and risks/issues identified
  • Point of contact for all audit activities (Review, Execute, Escalate, and Report)
  • Physical security audits, completed as needed
  • Integrated health and safety audits
  • Environmental audits
  • Additional Audits DC Specific
  • Capacity (Review Current, Escalate Impending Needs)
  • Mentor to a Steady State Engineer
  • Escalation point for Steady State Engineer and sites
  • Reviews/ prepares Weekly and Monthly Reports
  • Secondary Review for all RCAs for their Steady State Engineer's DCs
  • Escalation point for Capacity needs
  • Prepares and Submits any planned/unplanned budget needs for DCs
  • Launch responsibilities

  • Lease Negotiations Prep
  • Lease Negotiations
  • Knowledge of data center critical infrastructure functionality required
  • This position will require travel


Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • At least 4 years' experience in managing, tracking and reporting progress on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Readiness to travel 25% travel annually
  • English: Fluent


Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 5 year's experience in managing, tracking and reporting progress on multiple projects simultaneously
  • At least 2 year's experience in managing the mechanical and electrical design for new data centers
  • At least 2 year's experience in knowledge of data center critical infrastructure functionality
