The IBM GBS IBM Automation service line is a team of industry experienced, strategy, business, and technology consultants who collaborate with our clients to co-create a cognitive automation agenda for their businesses. This is a growing practice and the leaders and consultants on this team are the architects of AI and robotic automation for our clients.

Our Cognitive Process Automation practice is looking for Automation Subject Matter Experts who have knowledge of how to set up centres of excellence for automation and the assessment of operations for automation potential who can act as both a sales lead (to incubate and sell consulting work) also be the lead consultant in delivery of automation advisory services.

They lead the analysis of business processes and workflows with the objective of finding out how they can be improved and automated and are able to present a value case to clients. They need to understand the architecture of automation solutions to be able to explain how the components address the different capabilities required to deliver the business value identified. They will also need to have experience in designing and implementing centres of excellence or programs of work at scale to allow a sustainable adoption of automation technology..

Automation SMEs must be able to see the big picture, understand project objectives and be able to apply their understanding of how processes should work to operational improvement initiatives.

Other activities Automation SMEs get involved in include:
  • Leading process assessment workshops
  • Developing business cases
  • Educating business users responsible for managing and operating business processes and the IT function in terms of how robotics and other automation platforms can co-exist with their existing technology
  • Developing statements of work for process assessments, centre of excellence advisory engagements and subsequent implementation initiatives
  • Promote the automation offerings both internally and externally and conduct enablement sessions
  • Understand the offerings and solutions and be able to communicate with passion the people, process and technology impacts of automation
  • Work with our sector and service line teams, and Growth Market teams, to build awareness and opportunities for the solution
  • Build, progress and close deals, and/or work with lead account partners to progress and close deals
  • Identify Assets that can be used in solutions
  • Generate, or manage the generation of, materials for a number of repeatable solutions to assist with speed to market

The candidate will have excellent documentation and communication skills.

Experience in Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and/pr Business Process Management (BPM), Case Management is essential and experience in incorporating AI capabilities with automation is preferred.

  • Leading team members, providing your experience to other professionals within the engagement team and from other functions.
  • Utilizing Automation Playbook, Industry Frameworks and own experience to evaluate a business process and identify automation opportunities.
  • Development of client specific points of view
  • Facilitating workshops based on design thinking principles
  • Leading the creation of the engagement scope of work and outputs.
  • Maintain high client satisfaction by exceeding expectations and delivery excellence; build strong delivery teams with predictable performance; develop lasting relationships based on mutual respect of their capabilities
  • Recognizing risks and issues related to the engagement objectives and suggesting solutions.
  • Reflect IBM's core values every day, in all interactions -internal and external


Professional and Technical Expertise
  • Thorough understanding of automation capabilities and value levers
  • Thorough understanding of organizational capabilities required to set up automation centres of excellence and/or agile delivery at scale
  • Has had a lead role in assessing operations for automation potential
  • Ability to explain how automation components are architected to address the different capabilities required to deliver business value
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively - verbal and written
  • Superior powerpoint capabilities
  • Willing and able to travel as required
  • Proven capability in selling consulting services either internally or to external clients and then leading the delivery of them as a lead consultant.
  • Deep Relationship Propensity - Worked with Client in a consulting/relationship-driven behaviours


Professional and Technical Expertise
  • Experience in Lean process design techniques
  • Experience in incorporating AI capabilities with automation is preferred.
  • Familiarity with design thinking
  • Automation Anywhere or BluePrism accreditation around Robotic Operating Model
  • Awareness of Enterprise Case Management and/or Business Process Management technologies and capabilities
