Big Data Technical Sales Specialist

Job Description
IBM Analytics business unit is looking for Technical Sales Specialist professionals to join the team. You will be at the forefront bringing Big Data solutions to our clients based on a comprehensive product portfolio that delivers trusted information to the business.

The BigData Technical Specialist will work closely with the Analytics Platform Sales Specialist and the Technical Team to solve all technical related matters for our customers during pre-sales progression. This exciting position requires that you understand customer's business needs as well as the IBM Big Data solutions around Hadoop.

IBM's leading products in categories such as data-at-rest (Hadoop/Big Insights), data-in-motion (InfoSphere Streams), and data-in-the-cloud (Watson Data Platform) are the focus areas of this position.

You are IBM's technical sales consultant to our clients and the technical sales support for IBM sales teams. You will
1) understand the client's business requirements and technical requirements,
2) apply industry-specific knowledge and experience as well as deep product skill and competitive knowledge to bring new business and technology insights to your assigned clients.

This position is for a technical sales specialist who has support sales of complex offerings in a competitive environment. We are looking for technical sales specialists that have wide experience in Hadoop technology, including hands-on work, yet have the experience to run a complex sales campaign.

Key soft skills

  • Ability to articulate the value of IBM's Big Data Portfolio, including the differences between data at rest, data in motion, data in the cloud, etc 

  • Ability to understand market dynamics of the Big Data space to lead competitive positioning from a technical and economical perspective 

  • Understand prospect "insiders" and how competition sells to the account. 
 Develop insights from this and from public sources 

  • Grow your vast technical acumen on Apache Hadoop, the ecosystem and 
 customer critical and specific solutions 

  • Stay ahead and on top of all new product features and fixes 

  • Provide technical consultation and education to the Sales team by keeping 
 them apprised on new product information 


Key technical skills
  • Experience with core enabling technologies, networking, Unix, Linux, 
 Windows operating systems, building and managing compute farms, 
 scripting and java programming,
  • Knowledge in the the data warehousing space: PDA, Terradata, Exadata, etc.
  • Experience using and developing infrastructure solutions including but 
 not limited to: Apache Hadoop, (HDFS, MapReduce, Yarn, Spark) Hive, Pig, 
 Sqoop, Oozie, Ambari, HCatalog, Zookeeper, and Flume 

  • Experience with enterprise scale distributed NoSQL solutions including 
 but not limited to: HBase, Cassandra, Riak, MongoDB, Cloudant, etc. 

  • Experience with Enterprise Data Warehouses including but not limited to: 
 Teradata, Netezza,Exadata, MSSQL PDW, DB2 and GreenPlum 

  • Experience with data integration and governance solutions, including but 
 not limited to IBM Information Server, Informatica, Oracle, Talend, Ab 
 Initio 

  • Knowledge of Hadoop marketplace including offerings of Cloudera, 
 Hortonworks, MapR 

  • Knowledge of streaming data solutions, including but not limited to IBM 
 InfoSphere Streams, Apache Storm, Spark streaming, SQLStream, data Torrent

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Bachelors Degree in Science, Math, or Technical Orientation 

  • Readiness to travel up to 25% of time annually 

  • English: Fluent 

  • At least 5 years experience in BigData area and hands-on engineering or field technical sales experience


Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

  • Masters Degree in Science, Math, or Technical Orientation 

  • Readiness to travel up to 25% of time annually 

  • English: Fluent 

  • At least 5 years experience in BigData area and hands-on engineering or field technical sales experience
