Architecture Guild – Cloud Native Architect

Job Description
This role will be part of the Architecture Guild within the One IBM Cloud Services and Solutioning Hub - East. As the Cloud Native Architect within the guild, you will be responsible for providing architectural leadership and guidance to cloud solution designers across AP, GCG, Japan and MEA. You will have a particular focus on the architecture and design of cloud native solutions running on the IBM Cloud.

The major responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Represent the global One IBM Cloud Architecture Guild in the East
  • Promote and accelerate the adoption of cloud native solution architectures, standard solutions and the One IBM Cloud Architecture across the cloud solution design community in the East
  • Build a cross-brand community of IT architects to facilitate the adoption of cloud native strategies early in the life cycle of cloud opportunities
  • Provide pro-active guidance and direction on cloud native solution design to Cloud Solution Leaders (CSLs) within the One IBM Cloud Hub East
  • Develop and publish cloud native architectural patterns, reference designs, best practices and solution design templates
  • Lead the design of complex cloud native solutions, working with and mentoring Cloud Solution Leaders within the One IBM Cloud Hub East
  • Participate in the One IBM Cloud Solution Board for the East to review and certify cloud native solutions, providing design guidance and recommending corrective actions as needed to assure the quality, viability and strategic alignment of the designs our teams produce
  • Identify and harvest repeatable architectural patterns and reusable design assets from cloud solutions developed in the East
  • Identify emerging solution requirements or gaps within our current IBM Cloud offerings and provide feedback to global One IBM Cloud Offering Guild

Job Requirements
  • Possess a strong background in Enterprise Architecture and/or Application Architecture, preferably an Open Group or IBM certified architect
  • Expert knowledge of cloud native application architectures and patterns and able to effectively communicate the benefits of these approaches to both business and technical audiences
  • Deep knowledge of cloud native technologies and design approaches, including multiple of the following:
    • Micro-services architectures and design practices
    • 12-Factor application design principles
    • Design patterns and implementation techniques for highly available and scalable cloud solutions
    • Containers and container orchestration and management, including Docker and Kubernetes
    • PaaS environments (e.g. Cloud Foundry)
    • Server-less and Function as a Service models and technologies (e.g. OpenWhisk, AWS Lambda)
    • NoSQL data base technologies and associated data management patterns (e.g. CouchDB, MongoDB, Redis, memcacheDB, Cassandra, etc.)
    • DevOps practices and tool chains for continuous integration, delivery and deployment
  • Experience designing and developing applications or solutions based on these cloud native patterns, design principles and technologies
  • Ideally, should have experience with industry solutions such as IoT or Blockchain within a cloud native environment
  • Should have broad and deep knowledge of the services offered by the IBM Watson and Cloud Platform and experience designing solutions using those services (or equivalent experience with AWS or Azure and demonstrated ability to build this expertise)
  • Strong consultative approach and communications skills - both written and oral
  • Ability to identify and develop repeatable methods, approaches, patterns and guidance that encapsulate best practice can be used provide "how to" direction to other cloud solution designers
