Job Description

The Benefit Support Specialist supports and assists other functional teams in the Employer Services group with tasks such as data entry, mail and packet management, and digital management of client participant files. This role also serves as principal backup for the office Receptionist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include the following; done on behalf of clients' employees (other duties may be assigned):

Supervisory responsibilities:

• This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Support Specialist Responsibilities:

• Assists Benefit Administration department

• COBRA Data Entry

• Mailings

• Carrier Data Entry

• Return Mail

• Audits

• Tracking (HSA, Wellness, SP Affidavits)

• Mail / Communication Fulfillment

• Print, sort, and stuff benefit information packets for clients

• Special mass mailings and other communication projects as required

• Scans documents into electronic filing system

• Primary backup to Receptionist

• Answer phone calls

• Greet visitors

• Sort and forward incoming faxes

• Meters outgoing mail

• Mail Distribution


To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

• A high level of attention to detail and accuracy and excellent organizational skills

• Ability to manage time and prioritize tasks

• Capacity to be a team player and ask questions, while also having the ability to work independently

• MS Office knowledge, with focus on Excel and Word

• Experience using Microsoft Outlook for tasks, calendar, email and contacts

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum two years' work experience required.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret communication regarding group benefits. Ability to write (or design using computer software) routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively and positively deal with inquiries, questions, or concerns while demonstrating sensitivity to the issue and the person involved in the issue. Maintain an unquestionable standard of confidentiality regarding private medical information and/or personal information that is openly or inadvertently obtained.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to effectively and positively deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations while demonstrating sensitivity to the issue and the person involved in the issue

Computer Skills

Ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel and web programs.

Individual should have knowledge of, Internet; Spreadsheet software (Microsoft Excel); Word processing software (Microsoft Word); and, Microsoft Outlook (email, calendar, tasks, and contacts).
