Summary
The Director, Network and Telecom leads the Network and Telecom team at HUB International. This position collaborates closely with IT leaders, architects, and engineers by sharing information, actively participating in problem solving, and aligning Network strategy with the overall corporate IT strategy. They will also provide technical direction to other senior network engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Expertise

  • Provide advanced technical expertise and hands-on support of all aspects of all LAN, WAN, wireless LAN, security (firewalls and web filtering), VPN, and telephony infrastructure across the enterprise
  • Evaluate current network and telephony infrastructure and provide recommendations on potential improvements in technology, process, security, with the ability to articulate and champion proposed changes to technical peers, management, and stakeholders
  • Coordinate telecom vendor/ISP activity, including moves/adds/changes of physical circuits and porting of phone numbers
  • Ensure full environmental documentation with network diagrams, processes and procedures
  • Recommend, implement, and support network management tools (e.g. SolarWinds)
  • Provide timely response and expertise to problem-solving or on-call activities
Business Support
  • Serve as a project lead in the implementation of projects for new or enhanced infrastructure technologies or services
  • Act as a business liaison, representing network and telecommunications for business projects and initiatives
Financial and Administrative
  • Assist with the management and development of annual capital and operating expense budgets
  • Assist with gathering necessary information to support internal audit activities
Team Leadership and Management
  • Manage the costs and the demand and resource capacity for the team resources, leveraging external resources as needed to handle spikes in demand
  • Attract and develop a highly skilled team, including participating in team member on-boarding and development
  • Demonstrate Operations and Technology Leadership Behaviors (one team, build trust, customer driven, future focused, innovate daily, and be curious) in all actions and ways of working, and coach their organization on the behaviors
  • Provide periodic review of team member performance using both formal and informal mechanisms; mentor team members in best practices and provide skill development
  • Fulfill additional duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Highly organized and flexible self-starter with an eye for detail who can maintain multiple ongoing assignments simultaneously and reprioritize work appropriately in sometimes ambiguous and often changing situations
  • 10+ years of IT experience in managing or providing technology strategies and support in large, complex environments
  • 7+ years of demonstrated hands-on experience implementing and supporting systems around enterprise voice and data networks, including hands-on experience with Cisco routers, Cisco switches (Catalyst and Nexus), wireless LAN, firewalls, and VOIP telephony
  • Well-grounded in technology with expert knowledge of LAN, WAN, WLAN, telephony infrastructure, and network security best practices. Specific experience includes:
  • Exhibiting strong technical knowledge in routing and switching protocols including TCP/IP, STP, EIGRP, BGP, IPSec, MPLS, SD-WAN, QoS, and complex routing protocol setup
  • Having hands-on experience managing Avaya or Cisco telephony, including the SIP protocol, SIP trunks, and overall telecommunications administration. Experience with contact center administration is a plus
  • Implementing cloud technologies (AWS, Azure), especially regarding network connectivity and security
  • Deploying thorough documentation skills, including the ability to produce clear and concise network diagrams
  • Recognizing trends, championing best practices, and demonstrating a solid understanding of proper network design principles as a subject matter expert in network and telecom areas
  • Applying general technical expertise across the IT infrastructure spectrum, including end-user VPN, servers, email, and storage protocols preferred
  • Demonstrating an advanced understanding of security systems, such as web filtering, malware prevention, and SIEM preferred
  • Troubleshooting network and telecom issues in an effective and timely manner
  • Undergraduate degree in computer science or a related field; ideally advanced technical degree
  • Proven track record of incorporating the following key behaviors into day to day work: one team, build trust, customer driven, future focused, innovate daily, and be curious
  • Networking Industry Certifications (CCNP or greater)
  • Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
  • Project management experience is a plus
  • Experience working in multiple countries
  • Willingness to travel, US & Canada
