Research Engineer, eCommerce

The Houzz Engineering Research team is looking for passionate engineers to build the best online market for home design, showcasing the best products and providing the most enjoyable shopping experience for our users.  You will leverage your professional experience in machine learning, recommendations, and data mining to drive sales and user engagement.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Play a central role in improving the products marketplace experience, increasing sales and revenue
  • Research and implement algorithms to improve Houzz in areas such as search, personalization, and recommendations
  • Design and experiment with new product features to further engage our users
  • Define key success metrics for the commerce experience; collect and analyze user log data to calculate these metrics; ¬†design and run A/B tests to improve these key metrics
  • Work in a small, collaborative team with designers, front-end engineers, and back-end engineers to bring new ideas to life

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or related engineering discipline
  • Experience with Recommendation, Search, and Personalization Systems; experience in eCommerce and online marketing a big plus
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning, Probability, Statistics, or Data Mining
  • Hands-on experience with large scale data analytics; working knowledge of SQL a plus
  • Solid coding skill with at least one common programming language (e.g., Python, Java, PHP, or C++)
  • 2+ years industry experience
