Product Counsel

Houzz is hiring a Product Counsel to join our legal team in Palo Alto. You will work directly with our product team to distill legal risks into actionable insights as we reinvent the home design and remodeling industry through amazing technology and design.  You will help define and drive the processes that ensure legal compliance as our product grows rapidly to meet the demands of a globally expanding 40M+ user base.  Your deep legal expertise will be leveraged across product, engineering and design teams on all aspects of the Houzz’s platform and products.


  • Advise engineering/data/product/design teams on legal issues related to the development, release, and iteration of Houzz web and mobile products worldwide
  • Help Houzzers understand and evaluate legal risk and make innovative product decisions consistent with our company’s culture and value
  • Work with Houzz international teams to adapt and localize Houzz products and services for compliance in over a dozen local markets
  • Craft clear communications and disclosures for our users
  • Create and implement IP strategy including patent, open source, trade secret issues
  • Evaluate and negotiate technical vendor and partner relationships
  • Be the primary resource for a wide array of legal issues, including advertising, marketing, and consumer protection

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience, including startup or in-house experience at a consumer internet platform
  • Tech-savvy with expertise in software development; technical background highly preferred
  • Intimate understanding of and enthusiasm for the Houzz platform and products
  • JD from a top law school and CA Bar required
