The Opportunity:

Join our HomeAway Hosting Ops team, an innovative and growing partof HomeAway, Inc., the world’s leading online marketplace for vacation rentals withsites representing over 1.4 million vacation home listings throughout 190countries.


- Design, planning, and architectureof web hosting services / processes in context of both cloud and terrestrialdatacenters

- Management of Cloud assets inboth active/failover and active/active models

- Help bridge the gap betweenterrestrial and cloud support models as we continue to migrate our services tothe cloud

- Support application deployment,analysis, monitoring, and decommissioning

- Take ownership of assignedprojects and work with stakeholders to reach consensus on solutions,disseminate plans / status, and address blocking items in a timely manner

- Collaborate effectively withengineering leaders across the company and contribute to our shared goals

- Champion continuous improvementand standardization, keeping abreast of changes within the company and ourindustry

- Serve as a mentor andescalation point for Tier 2 support. This is not an on-call role but crisis support is required onoccasion

- Automate wherever possible



- Bachelor’s degreein Computer Science or equivalent professional experience

- Hands-on experiencewith core AWS services with (1) a detailed understanding of the pros / consaround various implementation options, (2) the ability to analyze related dataand (3) the ability to analyze and debug related issues 

- Hands on experiencewith containerization technologies such as Docker

- Hands-on Linux systems administrationexperience in a large and complex web environment (thousands of hosts)

- Experience troubleshooting Linux performanceand stability issues (including system resources, system configuration,application analysis)

- Experience with core shared services such asDNS, enterprise storage, virtulization, configuration management (e.g. Puppet,Chef, Ansible, Terraform), load balancing, OS and artifact repositories, and monitoring

- Hands-on scriptingexperience with multiple languages (e.g. Bash, Python, Ruby, Perl, Go) and ahistory of automating processes as a part of everyday work

-Direct experience collaborating with and supporting all facets of the businesswith Development as the primary customer

- Initiative to self-start and take ownership andresponsibility to work issues to completion

- Organized, consistent and calm under pressure

- Experiencewith both Debian and Redhat distributions is highly desirable


Education and Experience

10 Years progressive experiencein Applications Management/Software as a Service businesses

College, University, or TechnicalDegree in computer science or systems administration 

Equivalent experience orschooling in certain cases may be substituted for the other
