Vendor Management - IT Business Consultant

Location: Austin, Houston, Roseville

As a part of the IT Service Agreement Management organization, this role will help build out the vendor management capability by developing a framework and processes to maximize IT's investment and build controls to minimize business risk. This organization's charter is primarily responsible for IT external labor and software spend as well as managing outsourcing agreements for maintaining legacy environments including labor and infrastructure components.

This organization's capabilities must include:

  • This is a governance, compliance, monitoring and process role by maintaining supplier relationship management activities with a major IT vendor and ensuring the successful execution of IT contracts.
  • This role will require a good understanding of contracts and the ability to evaluate vendor performance, understand and reduce risk and optimize spend. This role needs to appreciate the nuances of the contract which requires a breadth of knowledge that includes IT, contracts and finance.
  • The position requires a team player who can work effectively with the senior leadership of the IT Organization and will work closely with internal business partners to forecast future needs and develop cost effective strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Key relationships include: IT senior leadership for all functions, Global Procurement, Legal, Finance

Role Responsibilities

  • Translates IT roadmap plans into vendor requirements, uses expertise in the development of commercial terms with providers to advise and lead the requirements definition for procurement, legal, IT and business teams
  • Works closely with Finance to develop the financial models and strategy for commercial agreements, including budget requirements, optimal models, and participates in negotiation efforts to deliver optimal financial and business terms
  • Participates in annual planning with executive leaders for functional area, advising on trade-offs, helping budget for priorities and synergy opportunities. Provides oversight and produces recommendations and executes tactics to deliver requirements within budgets
  • Facilitates and maintains relationships between strategic vendors and internal resources, including IT stakeholders and executive leadership
  • Identifies appropriate relationships in conjunction with internal customers and vendors to drive proper alignment on business and operational topics
  • Manages escalation and arbitration of relationship and operational issues if other avenues fail
  • Participates in the measuring of vendor performance and shares responsibility for the governance for vendors
  • Drafts policies and procedures for proper controls on IT vendor spend

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong business acumen with ability to create and analyze cost benefit analysis proposals and advise business leaders, finance and procurement on strengths of various scenarios and manage trade-offs and risks to arrive at optimal outcome
  • Excellent negotiation, relationship and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working closely with senior executives, understanding priorities, what information is needed to support decisions and confident in delivering presentations and advisement to senior leaders
  • Ability perform contract deal analysis and face off with vendors (partnering with Global Procurement)
  • Strong dispute resolution and mediation skills to handle issue escalation and to drive win-win outcomes for both parties (partner with Global Procurement)
  • Ability to read and understand large, complex IT contracts and manage vendor relationships in accordance to the terms of agreement
  • Strong ability to communicate with IT users and business leaders to understand requirements, expectations and value measures
  • Ability to work across a complex organization to create needed alignment and harness relationships and sphere of influence

To qualify, the candidate should have a successful track-record doing the role described above with experience in building a Vendor Management Office and building effective processes and controls that promote spend transparency and accountability towards financial targets.

  • A Bachelor's degree is required/Advanced degree preferred
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience working in a large, global organization managing a large enterprise IT outsourcing agreement in a procurement, technology portfolio, business development or partner management capacity. Likewise, experience working with major vendors such as SAP, MS, and Oracle is also required. Experience working with geographically dispersed teams & customer base is desirable.
  • 5+ years of experience managing complex IT contracts and relationships, both with contract commercials and with the business of IT including experience with outsourcing vendor contracts including experience with negotiating terms, SLA's, invoicing and dispute management
  • Strong understanding of a corporate IT environment and its role in the support of IT budgets and SLAs
