Server Hardware Engineering Resolution Team Engineer

This position is part of the Engineering Resolution Team (ERT) within the Global Service Delivery area of HPE Technology Services.

Responsibilities

Systems Engineers play lead roles in multi-discipline teams supporting new and existing products and solutions. You will be responsible for the engineering support of HPE Server hardware products. You will debug / troubleshoot to root cause HP Server hardware to determine and correct errors in the original design as well as provide suggestions for improvement in future product releases. Additionally, you may be required to produce new tools to assist the debugging process and will review requirements, specifications and designs to assure product quality.

ERT Engineers are responsible for resolving HPE hardware issues in Windows, Linux, HP-UX, and VMware environments across Industry Standard and Business Critical Server platforms. This consists of determining the problem root cause down to the component level if possible and working with R&D and OEM partners to make modifications to correct the problems.

Typical activities include:

  • Work with Technical Support Engineers on HPE Server product issues
  • Reproduce, isolate, and resolve problems that are elevated from the WW Customer Solution Centers. These problems involve HPE and 3rd party SW/HW products in Windows, Linux, HP-UX and VMware environment.
  • Update problem resolutions and progresses on the worldwide problem tracking database
  • Participate in new Hardware/Software products
  • Help write and characterize problems and solutions in internal product communication documents (Engineering Advisories) and external communications (Customer Advisories)
  • Develop tools to help debug or isolate issues
  • This position requires availability to work 24 × 7 rotation schedule when necessary.
  • Small amount of travel when necessary

Education and Experience Preferred

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or other Engineering, Computer Science, AND
  • 6 years’ experience in development and/or debugging technical hardware problems
  • Without a degree, 8 years’ experience in development and/or debugging technical hardware problems
  • Expert level experience in one or more of the following disciplines: networking, storage, memory, driver / firmware, virtualization, server OS and manageability

Knowledge and Skills Preferred

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Conducting reviews of material specifications and hardware and electrical component design
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.
  • Experience in multiple computer hardware and software disciplines
  • Knowledge of x86 architecture
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or other Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent
  • 6 years experience

Knowledge and Skills

  • Using and evaluating appropriate engineering design tools and software packages to design components and solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Conducting reviews of material specifications and hardware, software, and electrical component design
  • Evaluating forms of empirical analysis, modeling and testing methodologies to validate product designs and specifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language.
  • Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at senior management levels.

The Global Support Delivery (GSD) Engineering Resolution Team (ERT) provides engineering-level technical support in the Technology Services organization.
