Senior Software Engineer - SimpliVity Control Plane

Job Description:

HPE SimpliVity Control Plane team is looking for a principal level engineer to be part of a world-class engineering team responsible for designing and implementing solutions for system orchestration and hypervisor interaction. Our customers run their mission-critical IT infrastructure on our platform, so quality of delivery through good design and proper testing is essential for success. #CBHPE

The Control Plane team is responsible for high availability services, distributed change management, backup and disaster recovery solutions, and group communication protocols in a massive scale-out solution. If you are self-motivated, have a firm grasp on storage management and C++ or Java development, always find yourself at the center of development projects, and believe that untested code is broken code - we would like to speak with you!

Responsibilities:

  • Member of cross-functional Scrum team responsible for all stages of design and development for complex products and platforms, including solution design, analysis, coding, testing, and integration.
  • Participates in Scrum-of-Scrums, Communities-of-Practice, and other cross-team and cross-organization groups as needed
  • Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with systems design and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk.
  • Provides domain-specific expertise and overall software systems leadership and perspective to cross-organization projects, programs, and activities.
  • Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities in the software systems design organization.
  • Provides guidance and mentoring to less- experienced staff members.
  • Follow software development best practices to deliver new functionality and maintain existing functionality

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
  • Typically 6-10 years experience.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in Control Plane or Storage Management Software
  • Strong Object Oriented C++ programming and/or Java on Linux
  • Experience with Python, Perl, or other scripting languages desirable
  • Experience with Boost, STL, and Apache Thrift or other RPC technologies
  • Experience with SQL databases desirable
  • Experience in overall architecture of software systems for products and solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of software processes and methodologies including test driven development
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop and deliver final product quality code on schedule
  • Ability to work effectively in team environment
  • Experience participating or leading in SCRUM or other Agile software development methodologies desirable
  • Self-starter that requires minimal supervision
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language. Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and present options at senior management levels.
  • Pragmatic: able to analyze trade-offs and prioritize tasks in order to achieve goals.

The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge in one or more of the following areas:

  • Technical understanding of Virtualization (VMWare, KVM Citrix, MS Hyper-V), Cloud Technologies (OpenStack) including their trends and challenges.
  • Solid understanding of Heterogeneous Storage Subsystems.
  • Solid understanding of Cloud Orchestration , Cloud Automation and Scripting languages ( python/shell/Ansible )
  • A strong background of HPE and other vendors' Servers, Networking, Storage is also highly desirable.
