IT Data Network Operations Engineer - Connectivity Services

Participates as a member of and/or leads Information Technology (IT) technical team or teams of support engineers on applications or sub domain. Represent team(s) as liaison to the end users. Develop innovative team solutions to complex problems. Independently implements end user or enterprise infrastructure/Application or services of significant complexity. Applies deep broad knowledge of technology and industry trends to operate, and administer high risk critical infrastructure or software platforms and user groups of high complexity. Demonstrates technical leadership and exerts influence outside of immediate team. May act as an Incident Life cycle coordinator or service delivery lead to provide resolution for complex issues. Integrates technical expertise and business understanding to create superior solutions for the company and customers. Mentors and consults with team members and other organizations, customers and vendors on complex issues. Contributes to strategic direction for teams. Independently resolves highly complex technical issues within a given technical area. Partners with members of a team and other IT teams as appropriate; leads technical team while resolving key issues. Identifies potential escalations and proactively alerts management; leads and escalates through L3. Proactively searches for issues and provides solutions to prevent problems from occurring in area of responsibility including patch management. Independently reviews and manages highly complex and high risk changes to critical business systems. Provides mentoring and guidance to other technologists or developers. Participates in the Change Advisory or Technical Advisory Board. Ensures the service level management process is adhered to by continuous review with partners and business users. Assigns work to others. Technical leadership of assigned project. Provide time / resource estimates for assigned projects. May develop innovative solutions to complex business and technology problems.

L3 Data Network Engineer

Required Technical Knowledge and Tools:

  • The successful candidate should have extensive technical experience of the following:
  • L2/L3 configuration and support knowledge (min 5 years), of Cisco, ProCurve switches/routers & H3C network devices
  • Excellent knowledge of WAN routing protocols BGP, OSPF and MPLS
  • Working knowledge of Cisco LAN catalyst IOS and CatOS software
  • Configuration and support experience of OSPF, tacacs and CDP/LLDP within the LAN
  • Working knowledge of Cisco LAN L3 device series 3500/3600, 4500, 6500 and 7600
  • Working knowledge of Nokia and Checkpoint firewalls and Load Balancer/CSMs
  • Configuration and support of ProCurve L2 & L3 LAN switches and LAN protocols VRRP, QOS, RVST and MST, to include the following series devices 3500yl, 5400, 6000
  • Working knowledge and support of Wireless Protocols, HP Access points MSM420 and Aruba products
  • Working knowledge of network management tools such as HP Network Automation
  • HP Service Center or other CMDB based service tool
  • HP Network Automation or other LAN monitoring tools
  • Daily use of SharePoint for documentation storage or support process mechanisms
  • Use of Network Sniffer/Analyser

Required Project Working and Personal Skills:

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate experience in the following areas;

  • Deployment of remote networks
  • Representing the Global Telecoms organisation within a global or regional project team as primary support contact or Technical/Delivery Lead
  • Ability to guide non-technical staff at remote locations in configuration or troubleshooting remote devices/issues and work alongside other support staff in incident resolution
  • Extensive knowledge in Incident and Problem Management
  • Excellent abilities in fully documenting newly delivered solutions and timely completion of move to production processes
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments and support methods
  • Showing excellent proactive skills as part of an effective operations/delivery team
  • Communication skills both written and verbal for interaction with international/global and regional teams

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems / Computer Science or equivalent experience and a minimum of 10 years of related experience or a Master’s degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

Strong verbal and written communication skills and technical leadership skills. Strong experience with infrastructure environments (e.g. operating system, hardware, data center, security, network, voice, end user and server / web related applications). Strong experience with business Information Technology (IT) applications (e.g. supply chain, customer relationship mgmt, HR, finance) . Strong experience in scripting and / or programming language. Strong experience with implementation, problem analysis and solutioning of infrastructure and business application environments. Foundational or expert knowledge and experience with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL). Web technologies. Exhibits a high level of initiative and integrity. Strong problem solving, priority setting, and collaboration skills. Good organizational and analytical skills. Possess creative ability, consulting skills, leadership qualities, credibility and self confidence. Influencing skills and ability to work effectively in a geographically dispersed team.
