Data Engineer

If you are would like to keep our executive dashboard accurate by ensuring clean data, we want to hear from you. We are looking for a Data Engineer superhero who will take the Analytics team’s data infrastructure to the next level. You will work directly with our data infrastructure, datasets and analytics tools that are used by the Executive, Product, Marketing, Sales, Sales Engineering, Finance and Customer Success teams every day.

You will contribute to a variety of exciting projects that range from designing robust and fully automated ETL processes to building tools for improving company-wide productivity with data. You have a passion for designing, implementing and operating stable, scalable and efficient solutions to flow data from production systems into the data warehouse. You are also a self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity, pays close attention to detail and has the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Interface with other technology teams to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from a wide variety of in-house and 3rd party data sources
  • Interface with internal data customers to gather requirements
  • Design and build tools that make our data pipelines and surfacing more reliable and easier to use
  • Discuss cost-benefit analyses of short-term needs vs long-term scaling
  • Educate product managers, analysts, and engineers about how to use our tooling to answer hard questions and make better decisions
  • Passionate startup engineer who can quickly develop proof of concept and then go back and productionalize it
  • Work in a dynamic, agile, startup environment managing multiple high-impact and high-visibility priorities simultaneously
  • Use your expert coding skills across a number of languages from Python, Java, Ruby, Elixir and PHP
  • Work closely with backend engineers to roll out new tools and features
  • Triage, identify, and fix scaling challenges
  • Architect and build data warehouse providing near real-time data to a variety of client systems
  • Develop foundational data infrastructure, enabling other teams to build data-centric features
  • Design and develop new systems and tools to enable colleagues to consume and understand data faster
  • Design, construct, install, test and maintain highly scalable data management systems
  • Ensure systems meet business requirements and industry practices
  • Research opportunities for data acquisition and new uses for existing data
  • Develop data set processes for data modeling, mining and production
  • Recommend ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality
  • Build data expertise and own data quality for the awesome pipelines you build

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters in a quantitative discipline (Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Math/Physics/Statistics, etc)
  • 5-10+ years of overall work experience
  • 5+ years of SQL Scripting and Data Warehousing experience using RDBMS
  • 4+ years of Data Warehouse development for 100’s of gigabytes of data and billions of records (Redshift is preferred, Hive is ok)
  • 4+ years implementing ETL in open-source (Airflow, Luigi)
  • 2+ years of LAMP stack development
  • 3+ years of Data Engineering experience
  • Python (including Pandas/NumPy), Java, Ruby, Elixir, PHP, UNIX, Linux
  • Extensive experience with at least one RDBMS platform and SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc)
  • Deep knowledge of AWS Infrastructure
  • Built large-scale data pipelines and ETL tooling.
  • Worked with streaming and batch data processing tools
  • Designed and maintained distributed systems
  • Understand the challenges of working with schema-based and unstructured data
  • Database architectures, Data Mining, Statistical Analysis and Modeling
  • You've built software using several different programming languages
  • You're passionate about software design and have good testing skills
  • Ability to write reusable code components

  • Excellent communication skills (i.e. ability to explain highly technical concepts to non-technical colleagues using simplified examples)
  • Above average writing skills
  • Above average presentation skillsAbility to communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Able to empathize with a diverse set of engineers and internal data customersInnately curious about technology and the SaaS market, ideally curious about everything
  • Passion for learning, building, and moving fast
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and that there might not be one “right” answer

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with Analytics implementation using streaming pipelines (Kinesis, Kafka, Storm, Spark, Flink)
  • MatLab, SAS, R
  • Machine Learning in Python or R
  • Python Machine Learning Libraries (scikit-learn, etc)
  • Business Intelligence, Analytics or Finance experience
  • Ability to extend your scope into the Analytics domain and partner with that team to optimize the output of the Analytics function
  • Experience with EDA (Exploratory Data Analysis) and Data Visualization
