Job Responsibilities:

With preliminary direction from a licensed architect, analyze client needs and utilize independent thinking to develop approaches in and/or coordinate all phases of architectural design for different scale projects, from schematic design and design development through construction documentation and construction administration, including modifications to existing structural systems, space planning, custom detailing; free hand sketch using pencils or marker drawings such as perspectives, axonometric, space plans, elevations and details for presentations; hand render design drawings, using color pencils, SketchUp, Architectural Desktop 2D/3D, 3D Studio MAX, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Microsoft Office package to communicate architectural design concepts; analyze sketches, photographs, notes, and site survey of existing conditions & other input material to determine best approaches for completion of drawings to solve technical issues of design in relation to site conditions, building structure, HVAC, electrical and plumbing system, fire protection and materials for intricate detailing; develop design and concept for competitions requiring expedited concept development and document production; research for building codes compliance, barrier free compliance, and the integration of sustainable concepts into projects; coordinate conceptual design drawings with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (MEP/FP), structural, A/V, food service/kitchen, site, landscape, code, acoustical, sustainability, and lighting consultants to incorporate engineering systems into architectural designs to produce construction documentation, and secure client, tenant, landlord and regulatory approval; recommend materials to be used and assist in estimating quantities required; analyze design concept of buildings and spaces in 2D/3D, translate them into plan, elevation and perspective view drawings, and create and prepare design presentations using freehand sketches and 2D/3D modeling and rendering, including Building Information Modeling (BIM) using Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and SketchUp; coordinate input from multiple partners to translate into site plans; translate clients' functional and spatial requirements for structures into feasible design solutions, incorporating LEED sustainable design principles and preparing LEED documentation; coordinate with the firm to obtain approvals from clients and state and local agencies having jurisdiction over projects; participate in project team discussions and public meetings to provide recommendations when revisions from government agencies, planning officials, clients and other stakeholder groups are necessary and translate clients' functional and spatial requirements for site and structures into conceptual design solutions, incorporating LEED sustainable design principles; participate in meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and public agencies on a given project; assist in identifying and quantifying tasks outside the scope of the Owner-Architect agreement for negotiation of additional services; assist with evaluating bids, estimates, and contract budgets, coordinating with project managers, clients, consultants, and contractors to respond to requests for information, clarifications, and modifications; conduct construction administration via weekly site visits and issuance of weekly field reports, and detailed review of subcontractors' shop drawings, submittals/cut sheets on materials & equipment, review of structural construction for architectural coordination, HVAC system layout and installation, installation of lighting fixtures, and installation of electrical equipment; perform necessary modifications of drawings and specifications as construction projects progress and changes in dimensions, materials, and other aspects of design arise from client, agency or public input; conduct post-occupancy review of clients' use of space and site; coordinate project data and transmission and all electronic communications utilizing CA Database, Newforma, Prolog or other approved software; assist with reviewing and approving contractor payments; review and prepare certificates of substantial completion, occupancy, and final completion.

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor of Architecture (5 year) or foreign equivalent plus 1 year of experience to include analyzing client needs and utilizing independent thinking to develop approaches in all phases of architectural design for different scale projects, from schematic design and design development through construction documentation and construction administration, including modifications to existing structural systems, space planning, custom detailing; hand rendering design drawings, using color pencils, SketchUp, Architectural Desktop 2D/3D, 3D Studio MAX, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Microsoft Office package to communicate architectural design concepts; analyzing sketches, photographs, notes, and site survey of existing conditions & other input material to determine best approaches for completion of drawings to solve technical issues of design in relation to site conditions, building structure, HVAC, electrical and plumbing system, fire protection and materials for intricate detailing; researching for building codes compliance, barrier free compliance, and the integration of sustainable concepts into projects; coordinating conceptual design drawings with MEP/FP, structural, A/V, food service/kitchen, site, landscape, code, acoustical, sustainability, and lighting consultants to incorporate engineering systems into architectural designs to produce construction documentation, and securing client, tenant, landlord and regulatory approval; analyzing design concept of buildings and spaces in 2D/3D, translating them into plan, elevation and perspective view drawings, and creating and preparing design presentations using freehand sketches and 2D/3D modeling and rendering, including BIM using Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and SketchUp; coordinating with the firm to obtain approvals from clients and state and local agencies having jurisdiction over projects; participating in project team discussions and public meetings to provide recommendations when revisions from government agencies, planning officials, clients and other stakeholder groups are necessary and translating clients' functional and spatial requirements for site and structures into conceptual design solutions, incorporating LEED sustainable design principles; participating in meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and public agencies on a given project.
