Network Architect

Summary:

Responsible for ongoing stability, functionality and usability of the network and server environment to ensure maximum productivity, reliability and utilization of the equipment in all domestic and international offices. Responsible for the design, testing and complete documentation of network and server systems and operational processes. Install new, and maintains existing, hardware and software and provide support to the user community on an as needed basis. Provides level 3 networking, server, application, and user support. Directly assists the Senior Director of Operations and Project Management in the development, production, and operational activities within the Information Technology Department by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities. The Network Architect may be required to work at multiple locations within the metropolitan area. Individual accountabilities and work volume will be established through the development of annual success objectives, within the framework outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for maintaining network reliability and effective resolution of all network failures.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and support of all VoIP networked business phone systems.
  • Configures, installs, tests, supports, inventories and maintains network hardware and software, such as personal computers, VoIP telecommunication platforms, system software, software applications, printers, servers, routers, bridges, switches, modems, cabling, and Internet service providers.
  • Responsible for Data moves, adds, changes, ongoing maintenance and trouble resolution for all of Heartland Alliance and related entity locations domestically and internationally.
  • Responsible for executing IT technical activities for network/system administration and projects. Contributes to design, development, testing, implementation, and ensures appropriate delivery and execution through effective time management.
  • Consults with department senior leadership to develop system solutions consistent with organizational business objectives.
  • Maintains documentation of procedures and standards related to all network hardware and software acquisition, use, support, and security.
  • Responsible for computer operation scheduling, backup, storage, and retrieval functions, including timely recovery from failure of such equipment or services.
  • Recommends and contributes to the development of internal reporting capacities to support monitoring and evaluation of system usage, maintenance, life cycle, licensing, maintenance contracts, and warranties.
  • Recommends and contributes to the development and maintenance of "best-practice" procedures and documentation for network systems operational and support environment
  • Participates in IT operational, budgetary, planning, forecasting, and monitoring.
  • Participates in Service Level Agreement development, tracking and reporting.
  • Responsible for measuring and meeting Service Level performance targets.
  • Responsible for identifying new technology or cost savings opportunities, presenting them management and implementing them upon approval.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: Six years of related experience, or Bachelor's degree and four years' experience; must include experience in a multi-site environment.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: The Network Architect is expected to engage in regular professional development. A network certification such as one of the following is preferred:

  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP)
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

Networking Skills: Various LAN/WAN/VLAN technologies, Cisco, TCP/IP, IIS/Apache, Active Directory, DNS, MPLS, and PowerShell scripting.

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, internal customers, and the public.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and area.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
