Summary: This position will provide interpreting and translation services to International Program participants. Individual accountabilities and work volume will be established through the development of annual Success Objectives, within the framework outlined below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist International program staff in facilitating communication so the participant receives quality care in a language that they understand, including interpreting for individual and group therapy sessions.
- Assist International program staff in assessing cultural factors that may impede appropriate case management and treatment.
- Provide interpretation for participants receiving services outside the agency such as medical institutions or other agencies that do not provide interpretation, accompanied by International program staff.
- Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to standards of interpreting ethics including trauma-informed care.
- Work to outreach and engage participants into services.
- Be available to interpret on-site regularly at agreed-upon bi-weekly or weekly group sessions.
- Other duties may be assigned by program manager.

- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent certificate from a recognized institution or two years of interpreting experience required.
- Language Skills: Fluency in English and a second language is required. Ability to verbally translate accurately in that second language required. Ability to identify cultural factors and relate to individuals on a personal level. Proficiency in oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated competency in public speaking and strong interpersonal skills are necessary for this position. Proof of prior training in interpretation ethical standards or participation in on-site ethics training required. Ability to also translate is preferred but not a requirement.
- Ability to travel: Ability to travel to different locations throughout the Chicagoland area to meet with staff and participants is required.
