Deputy Entertainment Editor,

Hearst Digital Media is seeking an ambitious, culture-obsessed editor to oversee Cosmopolitan's entertainment coverage, managing a team of two editors and leading the charge on our celebrity, movie, TV, music, podcast, and books content. 

The ideal candidate is full of ideas, has experience booking celebrities for interviews and shoots, is a thoughtful editor, is savvy about audience, thinks strategically about content performance, and is passionate about pop culture.
This position reports to the digital director.

  • Manage a team of two staff editors and a roster of freelance writers
  • Top edit and oversee's entertainment coverage of roughly six stories per day, which run the gamut: interviews, reviews, second-hour and second-day angles on the news, essays, op-eds, profiles, features, listicles, galleries, videos, etc.
  • Anticipate buzzy movies, shows, and cultural phenomena that will matter to our reader and develop robust content strategies around them
  • Collaborate with the design, photo, and video teams to book talent for big multimedia stories
  • Conceptualize bigger projects like features, packages, theme weeks, social-first initiatives, video series, etc.
  • Collaborate with the deputy news editor to lead the charge on live awards coverage
  • Analyze story performance and strategize future coverage accordingly 

  • At least 7 years of editorial experience, with at least 2 years at a digital publication
  • A love of all things pop culture and a deep knowledge of the entertainment industry
  • The ability to work within a 24/7 news cycle
  • Well-versed in using various analytics tools (Google Analytics,, Omniture, Facebook Insights, etc.,)
  • A strong stable of freelance writers and a willingness to edit/nurture young talent
  • A deep rolodex of contacts in the PR and entertainment industries
  • Bachelor's degree
